Description
Dog Breed: Flat-coated Retriever (medium coat). #A5741091 Kenai is an 11-month-old, 61 lb spayed female Flat-Coated Retriever mix with a sleek black coat and a gentle, soulful presence. Surrendered by her owner, Kenai is still adjusting to the shelter environment and can be a little nervous at first. With patience and kindness, she begins to relax and show her sweet, trusting nature. She’s a soft-hearted young dog who just needs someone willing to go slow and let her build confidence at her own pace. Kenai walks nicely on leash, is very gentle, and already knows “sit.” She’s smart and eager to learn, making her a great candidate for continued training. She does very well in playgroup with other dogs and enjoys calm, positive social interactions. With love, consistency, and reassurance, Kenai will blossom into a loyal, affectionate companion. -11 months old, spayed female, 61 lbs -Flat-Coated Retriever mix, black coat -Owner surrendered, along with canine companion Kodiak (A5741090) -Gentle, sweet, and a little nervous in the shelter -Walks well on leash -Knows “sit” and is quick to learn -Does very well in playgroup with other dogs -Smart, sensitive, and eager to bond -Will thrive with a patient adopter who can build trust and confidence KENAI’S VIDEO: youtube/shorts/RICejT3gbWg For more information, contact volunteer Lisa at lisaaunitedhopeforanimals ------- United Hope for Animals (UHA) is a volunteer group and does not have a facility for animals. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
