CEDAR NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Come meet Cedar and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (2/15) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Falls Church (6100 - A Arlington Blvd, Falls Church, VA 22044)! Name: Cedar Best Guess for Breed: Lab and Hound mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years, 4 months as of January 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 63 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: DC area foster home Check out this video of Cedar: youtube/shorts/Gdajq-gyOE8. Special adoption considerations: Cedar is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Cedar is Looking For: Cedar is a handsome lab/hound mix with a warm tan coat, a larger build, and an apparent charm. Around 3 years old, he’s at that perfect age where he’s ready to enjoy life beyond the puppy stage while still having plenty of enthusiasm for walks, outings, and time with his people. Cedar has an approachable nature and carries himself with a confidence that makes him a lovely companion. He’s looking for a forever home where he can stretch his legs, soak up affection, and be a loyal best friend to his lucky adopter! What My Foster Says About Me: Cedar is incredibly intelligent and really wants to make his humans happy. He is picking up on several verbal commands (wait, focus, place, and off) and is adjusting well. He continues to get along wonderfully with my senior dog. Housebreaking is coming along just as well as long as we leverage the use of the crate and frequent outdoor breaks. He is a very good eater and is learning how to wait for his dish. He is also learning how to take treats from human hands and is learning some patience there too. He is very food motivated. It is important that he have a large crate and his next home as this is a safe haven for him. He shows signs of being a former hunting dog and having a space that is his own is important for him feeling safe, especially in the first couple of days. Not to mention That it provides structure for his house breaking He will be a little vocal when you first put him in the crate, but he calms down very quickly within 2 to 3 minutes. By the fourth night, he barked for less than one minute before going to sleep. Frozen peanut butter Kong’s and providing kibble for snuffling in his crate make him very happy. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.
