Description

Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Meet Jojo! He is a friendly, playful male Great Pyrenees mix. He is currently 75 pounds but will probably grow a little more as he ages into a full adult. Jojo loves everyone and just wants to be everyone's friend. He does well with kids and is gentle enough to let kids come to pet him. He enjoys receiving affection. Jojo is currently in a foster home with many dogs and integrated into the pack very quickly, he loves playing with them. He does great meeting new dogs. He loves going to the dog park to say hello to everyone and play with as many dogs as he can. He can play a little rough when he gets full of himself, but will back off if the other dogs lets him know when he is being too much. He loves Nyla bones and laying next to the other dogs in his foster home. He does not have any food aggression issues with people but will growl some if a dog gets close when he is eating. He has not been cat tested, but has a low prey drive so may do well with cats. Jojo loves walks and meeting the world. He barks some in the backyard when he hears a strange noise or close car but is not particularly vocal. He is crate trained but not a big fan of the crate, will whine some to remind you. He does okay in the car, he will jump right in but gets a little nervous during rides and will try to be as close to you as possible. He is mostly house trained, this is something that has been improving since he arrived at SPIN Rescue. He has a moderate to high amount of energy, as he is still young. He would do well in a home where he can get long daily walks or have another playful dog. Jojo is currently in a foster home in DFW, Texas. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging transport on their own. The adoption fee is $250. Jojo is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Great Pyrenees

A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:

The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
