SAMUEL NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Samuel Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd, Hound Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of Jan. 2026 SEX: Male Estimated Weight: 71 lbs as of Jan. 2026 Gets Along With: Other dogs! Samuel is a big and energic boy so would probably do best without very young kids. Currently Living at: DC area foster home Samuel is Looking For: Well, hello!! I'm Samuel. I'm pretty cute, if I do say so myself. I'm a young pup, so I can't wait to soak up all the wonderful things this world has to offer: walks? Yes, please! Trips to the dog park? Oh, please, yes! Laps to snuggle on? Check! I would also love, love, love to have regular access to treats and belly rubs. It would probably be a good idea to enroll me in a training class or two so I can grow up to be the best good boy ever. What do you say? Can you make my dreams come true? What My Foster Says About Me: Meet this big-hearted, 71-lb hound who is equal parts playful goofball and professional cuddle companion. He’s a happy, friendly guy who loves all people and truly believes everyone exists to be his best friend. He’s very food-motivated and will do just about anything for a treat (training included - he knows his stuff but sometimes needs a little reminder ). This energetic pup would thrive with an active, adult partner who enjoys runs, games of tug, and enthusiastic fetch sessions with his rope or tough stuffies. He also takes his chew time very seriously and loves settling in with a good dog chew after playtime. And then there’s his other favorite time of day: bedtime. By 7:30 pm, he’s officially off duty. Once he’s comfy on the couch or bed, good luck moving him - he becomes hilariously floppy, dead weight, and fully committed to rest. He will let you move him, but he leaves the work to you. When he’s not playing, you’ll find him curled up sleeping, preferably touching you at all times. He wants to be with his people 24/7 and will happily soak up all the love you have to give. With his soulful puppy-dog eyes and sweet hound heart, he's ready to show you all he wants is your love. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
