Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 450. Gene is an adorable hound mix puppy, born in rescue on October 19, with the sweetest wrinkles and an even sweeter personality. This affectionate boy is a true love bug who thrives on closeness with his people. He loves giving kisses, cuddling up, and soaking in all the attention he can get. Smart and eager to please, Gene is doing exceptionally well with recall and basic training commands, showing just how responsive and trainable he is. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, kids, and cats, making him a fantastic fit for a variety of home environments. When he’s not cuddling, Gene’s favorite pastime is a good game of tug-of-war, which lets his playful side shine. He is expected to be a large-sized dog when fully grown, so he’ll do best with a family ready to guide him with love, consistency, and positive training as he grows. If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate pup who loves both playtime and snuggle time, Gene could be the perfect addition to your family. The adoption fee of $450 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
