Description
Dog Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Shepherd (short coat). Meet Holly Belle! Holly Belle is a beautiful 1-year-old female black Lab/Shepherd mix. She is spayed, heartworm-negative, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and protected with a one-year ProHeart heartworm injection. She’s healthy, happy, and ready for her forever home! Holly Belle is incredibly affectionate, social, loves everyone she meets, and never misses a chance to give kisses! Playtime is her favorite, especially a good game of fetch, and she has the energy and enthusiasm to keep an active family smiling. She’s very smart, eager to please, and highly responsive to positive reinforcement (she loves treats!), making her a joy to train. Around Christmas time, she was intentionally abandoned by her owner on veterinary clinic property and was taken in and lovingly cared for by the staff who quickly realized what a special dog she is. She has done incredibly well in her run, is not destructive of her bedding, and has never soiled her space. She gets very excited when meeting new dogs, and we’re working on calm introductions as she continues to learn her manners. She loves to play with a dog that can match her energy! Holly Belle would thrive in a home that can give her plenty of time, space, and opportunities to run and play to keep her mind engaged. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
