Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Adoption Fee: 410.00. MACCHIATO fka Candyman Male ~2 years old Pit bull terrier 57 lbs. Microchipped, up-to-date on core vaccines and takes monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention Good with kids; untested with dogs and cats Macchiato is an exceptional housemate who stays cool, calm, and collected—even in a sometimes chaotic (read: loud) home with two young kids. He absolutely adores children and is wonderfully gentle with them… well, as gentle as a young, 57-lb ball of pure muscle can be! He’s full of energy and loves to play, but he’s equally talented at cuddling and napping. Macchi follows his foster mom everywhere—cleaning and picking up are always a team effort—and if you’ve ever wished for a personal security escort to the bathroom, Macchi is more than happy to take on the role. Macchiato knows sit and is currently working on down and stay. His zest for life means he can pull on leash and would happily greet every squirrel, deer, horse, and human he encounters, but he’s making steady progress on matching his excellent in-home manners to his walking skills. Despite being tall enough to check out the counters, he’s very polite and never helps himself. He rarely jumps on people, with the occasional excited greeting when someone new arrives—and he’s easily redirected. Mealtimes are easygoing; he eats at a healthy pace and usually leaves people food alone, aside from a little appreciative drool (it just smells so good). Macchiato sleeps soundly overnight, is 100% house-trained, and rarely barks (the vacuum is clearly EVIL). He does occasionally “talk,” especially when his people leave—and it’s as adorable as it sounds. His perfect day would include waking up with all his people at home, a long walk followed by breakfast, a solid nap, an extended game of fetch (he promises he’s working on dropping the ball instead of parading it around), and then dinner capped off with couch snuggles. At bedtime, you’ll often find him cozied up near the kids, happily listening as they practice reading—he’s a total sucker for story time. Interested in adopting? Of course you are! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
