Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Bob is a 5-year-old Labrador with a big personality and an even bigger zest for life. Weighing about 45 kg, heâs a strong, energetic boy who loves to stay active whether thatâs running around the yard, playing with his toys, or enjoying interactive play with his people. Bob thrives in an active home where he can burn off both physical and mental energy. Due to his size, strength, and enthusiasm, Bob is looking for a family with previous experience handling large dogs and someone who is physically able to manage a strong dog. On walks, Bob can be a strong puller, so continued training will be important to help refine his leash manners and channel his excitement in positive ways. Bob is also friendly with other dogs and enjoys social interactions, especially when introduced appropriately. Bob is searching for a family who will embrace his playful nature, invest time in his training, and provide him with the active lifestyle he deserves. If youâre interested in learning more about Bob or would like to schedule a meet and greet, please call the North Shelter at 416-338-8723. The shelter is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
