Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier. Name: Cowboy Age: 9 months Weight: ~50 lbs When the sun shines directly on anything or anyone, it casts a shadow attached to them. THAT is what Cowboy's presence is like - he is your constant shadow, and it's as warm and comforting as the sunshine! Cowboy is a pup who needs a slow and reassuring introduction - new situations and people make him cautious and wary. But give him a few minutes of gentle patience, a treat or two, and show him he can trust you, and you've won yourself a loyal sidekick for life! If you value several feet of personal space, or prefer having the whole couch to yourself, maybe opt for a tropical fish aquarium. But if you love 10/10 velcro-style cuddle time, Cowboy is your guy! He wants nothing more than to be by your side, he'd love to hear all about how your day is going, and he lives to love you, right on your lap if possible. He does well with dog-friendly cats and is submissive and respectful with other dogs, making him a good fit for a multi-pet home. Cowboy also enjoys playing and can keep up when it's frolic time, but he’s not over-the-top. He reads the room and other dogs well and balances play with calm like a smooth operator. When it's time to jog around, wrassle with his homies, or sniff his way through the neighborhood on leash - he's here for it. And when it's time to settle in for snuggles and pats - he brings the cuddle-puddle vibe like it's his job. Soft toys like stuffed animals don't stand a chance - Cowboy believes getting the stuffing OUT is the challenge, and he wants to show you how good he is at it! But a sturdy chew toy or a bone? Heck yeah! He'll happily settle in for major chew time. And a snuffle mat with some small treats in it - Cowboy says bring it on! At 9 months old, Cowboy is past the most demanding puppy stage but still young, curious, and eager to learn. He knows to potty outdoors like an expert. He would do well in a home that can offer regular exercise, structure, and companionship, whether that’s with another dog or as a solo pup. Cowboy is looking for a stable, committed home where he can settle in, build trust, continue to grow, and be a big ol' part of your everyday life. A firm-but-gentle training style with consistency would bring out Cowboy's best side - he wants to please, but any raised voices or an iron-fist ruling style? He's not a fan. He's a gentle soul and he thrives on receiving that in return. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: .sandypawsrescue. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: .sandypawsrescue. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
