Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Teddy is a nearly 4-year-old neutered male Akita. He was recovered as a stray in our neighborhood, which led to the creation of our local rescue, Hearts and Howls in the Heartland neighborhood near Forney. He has lived in our multi-dog household for several years, but recently he has developed a fixation with one dog, Wesker, in particular. This fixation has led to two physical altercations. I have been able to intervene and de-escalate both times, but on one occasion, I was attempting to grab Teddy's collar, and he misdirected the anger at me and broke skin on my hand. Teddy can cohabitate and play with all of our other dogs, but it seems the fixation on Wesker is getting worse. We believe it would be healthiest for him and the entire household if he were re-homed away from Wesker. Teddy goes out and plays with all of our dogs without issue. We love him dearly, and we're thankful his recovery led to the creation of our local rescue, but we feel it would be in his best interest to be in a home where he and Wesker do not have constant tension. **** Breed: Akita **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2192440&flag=1

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
