Dog Breed: Jack Russell Terrier (Parson Russell Terrier) / Mixed (short coat). Meet Addie! The pint-sized cutie with the perkiest ears in town! This adorable Jack Russell Terrier mix is 1½ years old, weighs just 16 pounds, and sports the prettiest tan-and-white coat you’ve ever seen. Her life got off to a rocky start when her previous elderly owner could no longer care for her, but those days are behind her now. In foster care, she’s learning all the best things about being a dog—soft beds, warm homes, gentle cuddles, and quality couch time. She’s blossoming more every day! She’s a friendly girl who gets along well with other dogs and even cats. She walks nicely on a leash, is crate trained, and house trained—pretty impressive for such a young pup! While she enjoys leisurely walks in nice weather, her true passion is snuggling up with her favorite humans and soaking up all the love. She’s hoping to find a calmer forever home where she can relax, feel secure, and be your loyal little shadow and best friend. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Her adoption donation is $275. Think she might be your perfect match? A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
