Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Little Abhi is a very gentle soul who is just beginning to learn what love and safety feel like. He came from a hoarding situation where he did not get much one-on-one attention, petting, or handling, so new experiences can be scary for him at first. He is doing really well in his foster home. He LOVES his foster mom, and follows her around. He's more anxious around his foster dad, but he is starting to come back into the house when foster dad is around (so scary!), and he lets his foster dad pick him up now. It's only been 2 weeks, so we think he's made a tremendous amount of progress. Abhi is living with 5 other dogs and is fine and respectful with them all. He hasn't started to play with any dogs yet, but he has discovered toys and loves to empty the toy box. He enjoys being outside, wandering the yard. He's even learned to walk on a leash, but we've only done short walks so far. We don't think he ever had the opportunity to go for walks until now. Abhi does best with a soft-spoken, calm person who understands that trust takes time. Once he feels safe, he is incredibly sweet. He loves to hang out with in a chair, on the couch, or in bed, and he is very excited to see his foster parents when they come home. He is still working on house training and has had a few accidents, so he will need a patient adopter or foster willing to continue to help him learn. Abhi will potty outside. Abhi has met a cat in his previous rescue home. He would thrive in a home with a canine companion or as an only dog, and older, considerate children who understand giving him space. Abhi is truly a sweet little guy who just needs time, love, and reassurance to blossom. With patience, he will reward you with quiet companionship and a heart full of gratitude. Abhi is up to date on vaccines, and has been neutered and microchipped. His adoption fee is $450. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. After all these dogs have been through they deserve a loving, committed home. CLICK HERE TO FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION!

Breed overview
Overview:
The Chiweenie, an adorable and increasingly popular designer breed, is a delightful cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the charming Dachshund. Originating in the United States, these small companions inherited a unique blend of traits from their parent breeds. Physically, they typically possess a long, low body reminiscent of the Dachshund, combined with the often-large ears and expressive eyes of the Chihuahua. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to long and wiry. Temperamentally, Chiweenies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and surprisingly energetic. They often exhibit a playful and sometimes stubborn streak, making early socialization and training beneficial. Their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living and families with older children or individuals seeking a devoted lapdog. While generally robust, potential health considerations include issues common to their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation and intervertebral disc disease, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
