Pennington County Humane Society Available for transfer or direct adoption Meet the O Litter, a group of bright, wiggly shepherd‑type pups who are ready for a fresh start and a family to call their own. These puppies have grown up outdoors with lots of freedom to explore, so indoor life will be brand new to them but their friendly, curious nature makes them wonderfully adaptable. They adore people, greet new friends with full‑body wiggles, and have that perfect mix of sweetness and playful mischief that makes puppies so irresistible. At around four months old, they're the ideal age to begin training, bonding, and building routines with their future families. They haven't had formal training yet, but they're eager, food‑motivated, and love attention, which gives them a great foundation for housetraining, crate training, and learning basic manners. They're expected to grow into medium‑sized adults. One of the pups, Hope, is a striking white, husky‑looking girl with a shoulder injury who will need a little extra TLC, but her spirit is bright and she's just as loving as her siblings. The O Litter is available for transfer to approved partner organizations or for direct adoption to committed homes prepared for all things puppy: training, structure, enrichment, and lots of love. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
