Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Meet Gitana Female | Small size | Puerto Rico → NJ Gitana is a true survivor. Rescued the very day she was abandoned alongside her siblings, she endured illness, hospitalization, and uncertainty — and came out the other side with quiet strength and resilience. Unlike her more timid sister, Gitana tends to gain confidence a bit faster once she feels secure. She is social, gentle, and observant, forming bonds at her own pace. She walks on a leash, enjoys companionship, and settles nicely once she trusts the people around her. Gitana is expected to stay small in size (8 months old and 25 pounds), is spayed, and has fully recovered from her early hardships. She would do best in a home that offers consistency, love, and the chance to continue building confidence — something she is more than capable of doing. Gitana didn’t just survive — she overcame. Now she’s ready for a life filled with safety, warmth, and love. To meet Gitana, please fill out an application: form.jotform/91758283848171

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
