Description
Dog Breed: Shar Pei / Mixed. Meet Twista, with the most perfect wrinkles, a smooshy face, and a heart as soft as his folds. He’s a wonderful medium size and truly an any–Shar Pei lover’s dream companion. Twista arrived as an unclaimed stray with a painful ear infection and in need of entropion surgery, but through it all he has been an absolute gentleman. He’s been a patient, cooperative good boy while the medical team gets him feeling his best, and his calm, trusting nature has won over everyone who meets him. His ear infection has since been treated and his entropion surgery completed. This sweet guy is kennel trained, potty trained, and walks well on a leash. He’s quiet in his kennel, keeps his space clean, and is wonderfully well mannered. Low energy and easygoing, Twista prefers lounging in the sunshine, soaking up cuddles, and enjoying peaceful companionship over rowdy playtime. He enjoys the company of other dogs and does well with them, but he’s more about relaxing side by side than roughhousing. Food motivated and affectionate, Twista loves people and thrives on gentle attention. He’s the kind of dog who fits effortlessly into a home and makes life feel calmer and cozier just by being there. Twista is ready for the good life for once and for all — a loving home where his wrinkles are admired, his naps are uninterrupted, and his sweet soul is cherished forever. Twista was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
