Description
Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie / Mixed. Sonja is a 13-lb Yorkie mix with a sweet, shy personality and the most adorable little mohawk and ear tufts. Estimated to be around 2 years old, she’s calm and easy-going rather than puppy-energetic. She loves walks and exploring and would happily go out every day, though her exercise needs are low to moderate and she’s also content lounging at home. Sonja is house trained, crate trained, and eats best in her crate. She walks politely on leash with gentle guidance and does not mark. Sonja would likely thrive as an only dog or with calm dogs her own size, as larger dogs tend to overwhelm her. A yard is important for her, since she prefers to potty there rather than on leash. Her favorite quirk? She pops up on her hind legs to ask for “uppies” when she’s excited. Sonja would do best in a calm home with daily walks, patience, and lots of love—where she can truly let her personality shine. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
