Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Libby Libby is a 9-year-old sweetheart who was clearly once loved—and she’s ready to be loved again. This precious girl is a true lap dog, happiest curled up close, smiling at you and “talking” to you (especially when she’s hungry ). We don’t know every chapter of Libby’s story, but we do know she’s been through far more than she ever deserved. She somehow found herself at the Chula Vista shelter at just 7 years old, was adopted, and then her trail went cold. Later, she was being sold in Highland by a homeless man from the High Desert for $20. Thankfully, a kind dog lover who has worked with us before stepped in immediately and got Libby to safety—and into our care. What we can tell you is this: Libby is potty trained She is spayed, microchipped, and vet-checked She has a much-needed dental scheduled for the 14th, after which she’ll be ready to go home Because of her upcoming dental, we are now accepting applications for pre-adoption so Libby can go straight from healing into the loving home she deserves. Libby is gentle, affectionate, and full of quiet charm. She’s ready to be someone’s little queen again—lounging on soft beds, soaking up love, and finally knowing she’s safe forever. Let Libby make your New Year bright, and let her heart be home where it belongs.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
