Description
Dog Breed: Flat-coated Retriever. “She has the gentlest, sweetest, most loving personality. She wags her tail when you walk into the room and just wants to be near you.” That’s adoptable HOLLY. Holly finished nursing her 12 PUPPIES and now this 2 Year Old Retriever mix is ready for her forever fam! She’s 48lbs, calm, affectionate, and incredibly easy to love. Fully house-trained, gentle with kids, and great with other dogs, she’s been living peacefully with a 12-year-old beagle and naturally matches her pace. Holly loves a predictable routine, cozy dog beds (sometimes carrying them around to self soothe), and quiet time at home. When she’s happy, she makes the sweetest little whine that lets you know she feels safe. “She takes treats so gently and is completely non-reactive - she just wags her tail.” City noises can still be a little scary, but she’s learning quickly and gaining confidence every day with calm support. After months of being the best mama, Holly is ready to be someone’s dog - loyal, loving, and quietly special. Let’s get Holly home!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
