Description
Dog Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $250. Lovely is, well… lovely. This petite girl (under 20 pounds) has incredibly soulful eyes and classic, big, beautiful Beagle ears that are mostly ornamental—typical of most Beagles. She’s so sweet, gentle, and already learning the fine art of being a house princess. Lovely is a bit timid—raised voices can clearly hurt her feelings—but she’s not fragile. She plays confidently with our larger dogs, enjoys a good round of roughhousing, and then happily settles in for snuggles. She’s also an expert at sliding under your hand for pets if another dog is getting attention. She wants to be with her people and will follow you from room to room, just to stay connected. When you sit down, she'll flop down next to you and demand belly rubs. She’s mostly potty trained and does best with regular trips outside, which she likes to use as a perimeter check of the fence for new scents. She’s smart, highly food-motivated, and picked up “sit,” “come,” and the nighttime treat routine on the first day. Sweet, affectionate, and quietly charming, Lovely lives up to her name. Lovely is heartworm positive. She can be adopted during treatment if the adopter is local to Tampa Bay and is able to transport her to a vet appointment.

Overview:
The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
