Description
Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $350. Meet Raine: Your Future Adventure Buddy & Professional Snuggler! If you’re looking for a dog who is equally sweet as she is active, look no further! This 1 year old, 45 lb Aussie is the absolute "total package". Raine is a true lovebug who is ready to find her forever team. She is a social butterfly who is happiest when she’s right by your side! Birthday Girl: She turns 1 on January 30th! Social Queen: Great with other dogs! A home with another dog would make her so happy, but it’s not necessarily needed if she gets plenty of exercise with her humans. Kid & Cat Tested: Great with people and lived with a 2 yr old previously! We recommend an active home for her so she can live with kids as long as the household is committed to giving her lots of exercise. She is also reported to do well with cats. A+ Student: She is crate trained and mostly housebroken (with frequent breaks). ‍♀️On the Trail: She is a great exercise partner and her recall is fantastic! Raine is a high-achiever with a heart of gold. She needs a family who understands active breeds and can help her learn to settle when the adventure is over. If you have an active lifestyle and plenty of room in your heart for a velcro-dog, Raine is waiting for you! Overview:
The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
