Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 300. Meet Glinda! Glinda is a sweet, affectionate 1-2 year-old, 15-lb mixed-breed girl whose personality shone through the moment she left the shelter. She immediately walked happily on the leash and was a confident, sweet, fun pup as soon as she got home. She loves cuddling close, playing fetch, and chewing on her toys. She walks nicely on leash and has the adorable habit of gently nudging her head into your hand when she wants more pets. Glinda is very people-oriented and is clearly happiest when she’s close to her humans. She does well with other dogs and cats and has shown herself to be both sweet and playful. She’s learning household routines quickly, is nearly fully house-trained with very few accidents since we’ve had her, and is becoming more independent each day as she settles into foster life. With her expressive eyes and sturdy little build, Glinda has the look of a big dog in a small package, and she’s ready to be the perfect little companion. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Glinda is $300. If you are interested in adopting Glinda, please complete our online adoption application at .gratefuldogsrescue/adoption-process/ . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. See our other available dogs at .gratefuldogsrescue/available-dogs/

Breed overview
Overview:
The Chiweenie, an adorable and increasingly popular designer breed, is a delightful cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the charming Dachshund. Originating in the United States, these small companions inherited a unique blend of traits from their parent breeds. Physically, they typically possess a long, low body reminiscent of the Dachshund, combined with the often-large ears and expressive eyes of the Chihuahua. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to long and wiry. Temperamentally, Chiweenies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and surprisingly energetic. They often exhibit a playful and sometimes stubborn streak, making early socialization and training beneficial. Their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living and families with older children or individuals seeking a devoted lapdog. While generally robust, potential health considerations include issues common to their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation and intervertebral disc disease, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
