Description
Dog Breed: Rat Terrier / Jack Russell Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 550. Ginger is pure joy wrapped up in a goofy, adventurous package. She’s a happy, playful girl who greets life with enthusiasm and confidence. Ginger loves people of all ages, gets along well with other dogs, and has been fine around cats too. She has a friendly, social personality but also has an independent streak that makes her fun and entertaining to watch. She has basic training, walks well on a leash (though she may still polish her manners), is crate trained, and does great in the car. Ginger is intelligent, eager to please, and always up for playtime. She has moderate energy and enjoys being active, followed by relaxing on her own terms. She’s the kind of dog who keeps you smiling just by being herself. One important thing to know about Ginger: she’s an excellent climber and a bit of a wiggly escape artist. Chain-link fences won’t hold her, and she should be contained in a secure kennel rather than a pen if confinement is needed. She’s clever and determined, so a home that understands her adventurous nature and can provide safe containment is a must. Ginger was found abandoned in a box, but that hasn’t dimmed her bright spirit at all. She’s resilient, confident, and ready to move forward into a loving home. She can be vocal when she wants something and will “talk” to let you know what’s on her mind, especially when she’s excited or stimulated by activity around her. Ginger would thrive in an active home that appreciates a smart, playful dog with a little mischievous sparkle. With the right setup and lots of love, she’ll make an amazing companion! Ginger is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 01/24/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Breed overview
Overview:
The Jack-Rat Terrier, a captivating crossbreed of the Rat Terrier and Jack Russell Terrier, originated from the desire to combine the best traits of its energetic parents. These medium-sized dogs typically sport a short, smooth coat in various colors, often with distinctive markings, and possess a lean, muscular build. Temperamentally, they are known for being intelligent, highly energetic, and affectionate, making them a lively addition to the right household. While their size might suggest apartment living is possible, their significant exercise needs mean they thrive with a yard and an active family committed to daily walks and playtime. They are generally good with children and other pets when properly socialized, but their strong prey drive requires careful supervision around smaller animals. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can inherit predispositions to conditions like luxating patella or leg-calve-perthes disease, common in their parent breeds. Early training and consistent mental stimulation are crucial for a well-adjusted Jack-Rat Terrier.
