Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $300. Hi! I’m Jayli! I’m a one-year-old Shepherd mix, I weigh about 55 pounds, and I’m basically your future best friend. I love everyone I meet—people, dogs, you name it. If you have a heartbeat, I’m probably going to adore you. I loooove to play! Toys are my jam, running around with other dogs is the best, and I’m always down to play with my humans. I do like to invite every dog to play, but don’t worry—I’m very polite. If a dog tells me they’re not feeling it, I totally respect that and go on my merry way. When I’m not playing, I’m a professional cuddler. Couch snuggles? Yes please. Bed snuggles? Even better. I also LOVE water—splashing, playing, and getting a little wet makes me so happy. I’m fully potty trained and crate trained. I’m still working on my leash manners and sometimes I jump up to say hi because I just get so excited to meet people! I have night blindness ,so dim lighting or no light can make it hard for me to see. The good news? Once I learn your home, you honestly won’t even notice—it doesn’t slow me down at all. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
