Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Please note this dog is NOT an official Underdog dog, and you will be connected with the person who has the dog. Please Contact Kellie, 253-318-3226, Kelliehammercomcast: MEET SVEN!! Sven was saved from euthanasia in January 2025 and has lived in a kennel for another year. He has a couple of people helping him learn what he can, but the learning is limited and irregular. Sven is a happy, lovable, strong and excited pup looking for a chance and a home. He loves all affection and attention. When he trusts you, he will love belly rubs and crawling in your lap for some extra love. Sven is a bit anxious, frustrated and deteriorating living in a kennel for a year. He is friendly, playful, and loves playing fetch and soccer. He is smart and knows sit, wait, break, ready and down. He could use more consistent practice though. He is also learning how to act around other dogs. Currently he is the only dog, and should not be in a home with small animals. Sven loves to play in kiddie pools, even when it's cold outside. He is really hoping for someone to take a chance on fostering or adopting him, so he can have a happy life in a great home. German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
