Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Laska is a 2.5-month-old, 8lb mixed-breed puppy who is expected to grow into a medium-sized dog. He came into rescue with his six siblings and is already off to a great start—learning to potty outside and happily playing until it’s time for a well-earned nap. Laska is the most outgoing of the bunch. He’s always the first to try something new but prefers being held over playing on the floor. He likes to keep his foster within sight at all times. Like all puppies, Laska will need continued house training, crate training, and help learning good manners as he grows, but he’s at the perfect age to learn and thrive with guidance and consistency. He has not yet been exposed to cats, but with proper introductions and ongoing support, he could potentially become cat-friendly. If you’re ready for puppy snuggles, playful energy, and the rewarding journey of raising a young dog, Laska could be the perfect addition to your family. He is neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, and will be available for adoption starting 1/14/26 through Paws Across Pittsburgh, Springdale, PA KL# 16182.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
