Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Bruiser (A566287) is a 2yo, 60lbs, white pit bull terrier. Bruiser has been at the shelter since January 6th, 2026. 24Petconnect/DetailsMain/PGEO/A566287 I was about to pack up for the day and head out, and then I saw Bruiserâs happy face through the kennel. Without hesitation, I put my bag down and brought my leash out to make sure I made time for him. I wasnât disappointed, as Bruiser was fun to walk with and hang out with in the big run in the field. Bruiser pulls a bit on the leash and is occasionally jumpy, as can be expected from a young dog who isnât getting regular walks. He seems to have had at least some prior training though as he used the bathroom immediately after going outside, which might indicate prior house training. He also checks in with me while we are walking, and showed me that he is familiar with âsitâ, âwaitâ, and âhereâ cues. Bruiser has previously participated in playgroup at the shelter in the gentle dainty grouping of dogs. His notes say he was âsteerable with gentle dainty play style. Todayâs frigid temperatures could have played a role in lack of playful activity.â. I hope that Bruiser finds a home before too long.He deserves a home with a family who will appreciate his gregarious personality, great smile and cute wiggly butt! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
