Dog Breed: Rottweiler (medium coat). Meet Ham, a handsome 3-year-old Rottweiler mix who’s ready to be your ultimate adventure buddy! With his shiny black coat and big, soulful eyes, Ham turns heads wherever he goes. He’s a social butterfly who is very friendly with people, enjoys affection and can’t resist a good game of fetch or playtime with his favorite toys. Ham is full of playful energy and enthusiasm for life. He’s strong on the leash, but thanks to his EZ walk harness, strolls are much more manageable, though he’ll definitely bring some excitement to your daily walks! Having lived with another large dog before, Ham just might be the perfect new friend for your current big pup. Bring them both to the shelter for a meet-and-greet and watch the fun unfold! Please note: Ham has a BIG personality and is still working on polite greetings- his playful jumping means he’d do best in a home without small children. Plus, he loves to chase livestock and small animals, so a home with no small dogs or livestock is ideal. Ready for endless games of fetch and an affectionate companion? All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. Overview:
The Rottweiler is a powerful and intelligent breed, originating in Germany where they were primarily used to drive cattle and guard property. Physically, they are robust dogs, instantly recognizable by their medium-large size, strong build, and striking black coat with distinct tan markings, particularly on the muzzle, chest, and legs. Their temperament, when properly socialized and trained, is one of unwavering loyalty and confidence; they are known for being calm and courageous, making them excellent guardians. While generally good with children within their own family, their protective instincts mean they require supervision with strangers. Due to their size and need for regular exercise and mental stimulation, Rottweilers are generally not ideal for apartment living and thrive in homes with secure yards. Health-wise, they can be predisposed to conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions, necessitating responsible breeding practices and regular veterinary check-ups.
