Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Lola, the stocky lowrider pittipotamus! Lola came into the Shelter as a stray by a good Samaritan who found her and kept her safe for a few days before bringing her to the Shelter. She interacted positively with the resident dog in the home and enjoyed playing with toys. Staff at the Shelter have observed that Lola can be a bit shy at first but warms up with a thoughtful slow introduction. Once she is comfortable, she is your typical goofy pittie. She has been eager to play with a variety of dogs since her arrival at the Shelter and has an abundance of energy. She may be a little bit too much for some dogs but if a resident dog is looking for an energizer bunny playmate â Lola may be the gal. Lola has demonstrated some prey drive towards smaller animals so a home without cats or small animals is recommended. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
