Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier. Pinky thinks she is the boss of me but really I’m just going along with it because I absolutely adore her. Maybe it’s just because we’ve always been together, but I just can’t imagine life without Pinky. We will make it very easy on you to take both of us home by walking nicely on the leash, doing our business outside, and getting along. Don’t think of it as adopting two mouths to feed, just keep thinking about how much money you’re going to save by not having to send a dog to daycare for socialization. Each one of us comes with a ready-made companion! The Henrico Police Animal Shelter is accessible by appointment only. Animals available for adoption can be viewed online at petfinder or adoptapet. Please contact the Animal Shelter at (804) 727-8807, Monday-Saturday, 10:00 am - 4:30 pm to schedule an appointment for adoption. Thank you.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
