Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Lil Jon, our Contra Costa Animal Services survivor Lil Jon was found as a stray and taken to the shelter when he was just a puppy. The shelter was a terrifying and confusing place for him—he was stressed, scared, and sad, not understanding why he was there. We rescued Lil Jon just minutes before he was going to be euthanized. We couldn’t leave him behind. Lil Jon is about 1 year old, a terrier mix, and weighs approximately 45 lbs. He is vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. Lil Jon is fully housebroken and crate trained, and he even alerts you when he needs to go outside. He is very respectful of the home—he doesn’t destroy or chew and can be trusted to free-roam for a few hours when left alone. Lil Jon knows his basic commands and is very social with both people and other dogs. He’s a wonderful young dog with so much love to give and is ready for a forever home where he will finally feel safe and loved.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
