Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (medium coat). ***Farrow will be available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the Jan 24-25 weekend. An application for her adoption can be submitted at socorescue (no need to register or login). Questions about Farrow and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8gmail; please do not call the rescue.*** SoCo Rescue was contacted by a local groomer who was facing a dilemma. One of her customers had boarded his medium-sized female dog and her seven young puppies during a recent cold snap, which saw our temperatures dip to well below freezing. Knowing that the owner was having difficulties providing even the basics for mom and pups, she convinced him to let her find a new home or rescue to take the dogs. That's when the groomer contacted us. It took a couple of weeks, but we were able to take in both mom and all of her pups. From this litter comes Farrow has been well socialized towards people and loves to play. She also has a very inquisitive nature and loves to explore new things. She will make a great addition into just about any home. By the time Farrow is ready for adoption, she will have received 2 of 3 of her first year puppy vaccinations, scheduled de-wormings and other preventative care. She's also been started on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. Her adopter must agree to having her spay once she reaches 6 months of age and providing verification of such to our rescue. Farrow will require all of her basic training.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
