Description

Dog Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (medium coat). Spice is a beautiful Blenheim-colored Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is about 4 years old. Spice spent the first 4-ish years of her life as a breeding mama before coming into the rescue in September. She lives in a foster home with another foster dog, 2 resident adult dogs, 3 kids, and 2 adults. Spice is thriving in the home environment, but she still has a long way to go. When Spice first came to us, she was very scared of everything in our home and spent most of her time safely in her crate. However, once she got comfortable, she became queen of the couch. When she is on the couch and sleepy, she will let you pet her. However, any other time, she recoils from petting. She does like sniffing hands and, recently, she has been greeting all guests in our home with a tail wag and a sniff. She loves treats and bones. While she is mostly potty-trained, she still has occasional accidents around the house. She did not walk on a leash for months, but she got too lonely when we were gone, so finally she decided she would walk on a leash only if the person walking her walked behind her. Spice's biggest love in life is other dogs. She wants to be with other dogs and is happiest when part of a pack. She wants to be wherever they are but she does not engage in much play with them. Because of Spice's history, Spice needs to go to a home that has a well-adjusted resident dog who can continue to teach her how to be a dog. If you are interested in helping her learn how to live “the good life” as a family dog, please submit an application to meet her! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, dental, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $775.00

Overview:

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an enchanting toy breed with a rich history, originating from the spaniels depicted in paintings of the 16th to 18th centuries and popularized by King Charles II. They are characterized by their gentle, affectionate temperament, making them exceptional companions. Physically, Cavaliers are small yet sturdy, typically weighing between 13-18 pounds, with a silky, medium-length coat that comes in various color patterns including Blenheim (chestnut and white), tricolor, black and tan, and ruby. Their signature features include a slightly domed head, large expressive eyes, and long feathered ears. Cavaliers are known for being adaptable and eager to please, thriving in both family environments and apartment living due to their moderate exercise needs and loving nature. They generally get along well with children and other pets, fitting seamlessly into most households. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain breed-specific health concerns, such as heart conditions (mitral valve disease) and syringomyelia, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
