No What kind of home would be best for me? Thelma is half of a bonded pair with her sister / best friend Louise. They will not be separated. If you don't have room in your heart for 2 tiny chihuahuas, these are not your girls! Thelma is looking for a home with a family that understands her breed. She and Louise would prefer to be the only pets in your home. They really don't want to live with children. They require that you allow them to sleep in the bed. What is my personality like? Meet Thelma - All 50 pounds of personality packed into a mighty 5-pound Chihuahua. True to her breed, Thelma is very particular - about her people and her doggie friends. She doesn’t give her heart away easily, but when she decides you’re hers, she loves deeply, fiercely, and forever. Seized in a cruelty case, we have no idea what life was like for Thelma before arriving in rescue. We do know that it's made her a bit skeptical - we can't blame her. In foster she's learned that humans are actually pretty cool, and kind, and have lots to offer. She just needs time to learn your routine. That love shines brightest with her sister, Louise. These two are completely inseparable - always together, whether they’re sleeping side by side, snuggled up in a tiny heap, or bouncing around playing. Where Thelma goes, Louise is never far behind. Small in size, enormous in spirit, and loyal to her core - Thelma is the definition of a tiny dog with a giant heart and an even bigger attitude. How do I act when I first meet new people? Thelma is going to scope you out before showing you love. With a sassy little side eyed shade, she watches before she engages. We promise the snuggles are worth the work! Other tips and tidbits: Thelma is estimated at 1.5 years old. We celebrate her birthday 04/02/2024. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive — and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them. Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
