Meatloaf is a small (and incredibly adorable) Chiweenie with a tender heart and a gentle, loving spirit. Estimated to be around 1–3 years old, this little guy has been blossoming in foster care and is becoming more confident with each passing day. While Meatloaf can still be a bit cautious in new situations, he’s made wonderful progress with people—some he warms up to instantly and happily seeks out for love and attention. Once he feels safe, his affectionate side shines through, and he’s now a full-fledged lap dog who loves being picked up and cuddled. At night, you’ll often find him burrowed under the blankets, sleeping as close to his people as possible. Meatloaf is potty trained and does very well on a routine. Like many small male dogs, he may still mark occasionally, but overall he’s got the hang of things. He is not leash trained yet, so a secure fenced yard is a must for him. And speaking of yards—Meatloaf lives for them! He absolutely loves to zoom around outside and can jump surprisingly high for such a little guy, so a secure fence is important. After playtime, he’s just as happy to come inside and curl up nearby or in your lap. He does wonderfully with other dogs of all sizes. He recently spent time with a very large, senior Lab and was completely comfortable and respectful. He also shares a special bond with his brother Spam, and while they would do great if adopted together, Meatloaf can also thrive on his own in a home where he gets plenty of love and attention. A home where someone is home most of the time would be best for him. Meatloaf has a few favorite treats—apples and carrots are at the top of his list—and he enjoys the simple joys of being safe, loved, and part of a home. He is a sensitive, sweet boy who has already come so far. With a patient, loving family and a calm environment, Meatloaf will continue to grow into a confident, loyal companion who wants nothing more than to be close to his people. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.
