Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 350. Bingo is a 1-year-old, 30-lb terrier mix boy with a gentle, affectionate nature and a heart full of love. He does well with all adult humans and plays nicely with dogs that match his size and energy level. While Bingo can be a bit shy at first, he warms up beautifully and becomes a happy, playful companion once he feels comfortable. This sweet boy is incredibly affectionate and absolutely adores belly rubs. He’s gaining confidence with other dogs his size and is politely submissive around more dominant dogs. Bingo does not nip, is very quiet (you may hardly ever hear him bark), and is respectful in the home—he does not destroy or cause mischief. Bingo is a calm, loving presence who will thrive in a patient, kind home that allows him the time he needs to fully shine. He’s being lovingly cared for until he finds his forever family—and that family is going to be very lucky. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
