Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). ***Barbara Jean will be available for adoption at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the Jan 24-25 weekend. An application for her adoption can be submitted at socorescue (no need to register or login). Questions about Barbara Jean and/or our adoption process should be sent to socorescue8gmail; please do not call the rescue.*** Barbara Jean and her four siblings were found by an East Dublin Police Officer. The pups were all alone and living inside a drainage pipe. While four of the pups were captured rather quickly, Barbara Jean wasn't so easy to catch. But the officer's compassion and dedication led to the capture of Barbara Jean the next day and she was reunited with her siblings here at SoCo Rescue a few days later. It's in honor of the officer that we named this pup Barbara Jean. Barbara Jean is a very sweet, well-socialized young pup. She eagerly makes new friends and doesn't show any hesitation in showing just how affectionate she is. And she carries over that personality to other dogs as well. Prior to her arrival and reunion with her siblings, the other pups had been a little hesitant to come near us. After Barbara Jean arrived, their fear of people dissolved immediately and they are now also very welcoming of people. Barbara Jean has started receiving her first year "puppy" vaccinations and de-wormings. While she is available for pre-adoption, she won't be released to her new home until a week after she receives her second round of vaccinations and de-wormings (Feb 1, 2026). Her adopter must agree to having Barbara Jean spay once she reaches 6 months of age and providing verification of such to our rescue. She will require all of her basic training.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
