Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 350.. Meet SHORTY (female, 16 lbs), WIGGLES (female, 14 pounds) and ELO (male, 18 lbs), three darling little mixed breed dogs looking for homes. These little sweethearts came to us from a backyard breeder who told us they were Feist/Dachshund type mixes. Honestly, they look to us like small terrier mixes and so far don't have the hunting dog personalities of Feists. Feists are a breed group from the south, there's no AKC standard so they have a variety of looks. Wiggles looks more like a chiweenie than a feist. So yeah, small mixed breed dogs. These 3 are cuddlers. Elo is about 2 years old and the most outgoing of the three. Shorty is about 18 mos and Wiggles is about 2 years old. Both girls are on the timid side. They were all indoor dogs, living with 20-30 other small dogs so they are definitely dog friendly. Wiggles and Shorty would probably benefit from having another friendly small dog. If you don't currently have a dog, any 2 of these dogs would be fine adopted as a pair. If you'd like to meet ELO, WIGGLES or SHORTY, please fill out a dog adoption application at dreamhouserescue. We are happy to arrange a private meet with an approved adopter. You can meet them at our weekly adoption event, Saturday 11:30am-1:30pm at PetSmart Eastgate. Our fully-vetted adoptable dogs go to prospective homes for a one-week trial period to make sure the dog and home are the right fit before an adoption is finalized. We only adopt dogs into homes where all current pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccines and heartworm and flea and tick prevention. We do check veterinary references to make sure adopters are compliant with standard veterinary care. Our adoptable dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, dewormed and current on flea and tick and heartworm prevention.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
