Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund (long coat). Harry is a gorgeous solid black (a rare color for a Dachshund) long hair purebred Dachshund. He is about 7 years old, and approx. 15 pounds. Neutered, up to date on all vaccinations and rabies. Knows the doggie door. He is an absolute love. He was hit by a car, and lost his right eye when he was young, but that doesn't stop him at all. Harry is a very sensitive boy, and needs someone that is home most of the time. He would also love a fur companion, which he's always had. Has always slept in the big bed. I would say no cats. The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
