Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane (short coat). I am 108 lbs., and I am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $500 Meet Pipsqueak, the loveable Great Dane! Don’t let the name fool you — this gentle giant has a huge heart to match his size. Pipsqueak came to us from a tough situation in Tennessee, where he was surrendered along with 11 other animals. When he arrived, he was severely underweight and clearly hadn’t had the care he deserved. Since being rescued, this sweet boy has already started his comeback story. He’s gained some weight and strength, but he’ll still need a loving home committed to helping him continue to fill out and thrive. What Pipsqueak may lack in pounds right now, he more than makes up for in affection. The moment he sees staff, his whole body wiggles with excitement. He’s a total love bug who just wants to be close to his people and soak up all the kindness he can get. Pipsqueak is looking for a home that will give him patience, good nutrition, and lots of snuggles while he continues his journey to full health. In return, you’ll get a loyal, goofy, oversized best friend who will adore you with his whole wiggly self. All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on preventatives at the time of adoption. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present to be able to adopt. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. Appointments are recommended. All applications are considered general. Specific animals are NOT put on hold for adoption. When you visit, our adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family. Animal House Shelter cannot guarantee the breeds of the adoptable animals. The animals are posted on the website as the breed or breed mix based on their physical characteristics they most resemble. We also cannot guarantee the ages of our adoptable animals or how large puppies will be when fully grown. We look forward to seeing you soon! Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
