Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Meet Mello! Mello is an energetic, playful boy with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He loves to play—whether it’s with our resident dog, Par, or with his people. He’s fully potty trained and crate trained. Mello is very affectionate and extra generous with kisses—he’s still learning when it’s okay to lick and when it’s time to take a break. He’s extremely food motivated, which works in his favor during training. When told to lay down while people are eating, he settles nicely and does a great job. Training & Manners: Mello is still very much a puppy and is learning his manners. He is both treat- and toy-motivated, making training much easier for this big guy. He truly wants to please and is eager to learn. Walks: Mello loves going for walks! He’s still learning how to walk politely on a leash, but we’re already seeing improvements. Dogs: He loves them. He loves kissing his foster sister Par! Treats: Treats are his favorite! He sits nicely for them but is still learning to take them gently. Tricks: Mello currently knows sit, stay, lay down ( which he then goes and lays in his crate) and usually responds when asked, though he’ll benefit from continued consistency and practice. Kids: Mello does love kids but would do best with older children due to his size and puppy energy. The Bottom Line: Mello is a sweet, clumsy, lovable boy who would thrive in a forever home willing to continue his training. With patience, consistency, and love, he’s going to grow into an incredibly well-mannered companion. apply at projecthopearf

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
