Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Meet Baxter Your Future Adventure Buddy! Hi there! I'm Baxter, a 2-year-old male Shepherd/Husky mix weighing in at about 85 lbs of fun, fluff, and full-speed zoomies. I recently found myself at Rockwall Adoption Center through no fault of my own, and now I'm ready to start my next chapter with an active family who's ready to keep up with me. I'm a smart, energetic guy who loves learning new things and staying mentally and physically busy. As a Shepherd/Husky mix, I'm very people-oriented and thrive on interaction, companionship, and being part of the action. I'm the kind of dog who wants to be involved in your lifewalks, playtime, training sessions, and probably supervising whatever you're doing (quality control is important). Because I bond strongly with my people, I'm not a set it and forget it kind of dog. I do best in a home where I won't be left alone for long stretches and where I can be indoors, included, and mentally engaged. Long lonely days in the yard are not my styleI'd much rather be by your side. If you have other dogs, a meet and greet is recommended to be sure everyone's play styles and personalities are a good match before I head home. I'm already neutered, microchipped, current on my rabies and basic vaccinations, heartworm negative, and my adoption fee is $125. IMPORTANT NOTICE: All shelter animals are required by Texas state law to be spayed/neutered. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
