Description
Dog Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Meet Nuri Nuri came to the shelter on 12/1 and is a sweet, sensitive girl whoâs finding the kennel environment a bit overwhelming. While she can be nervous in her kennel, once sheâs out with people, her true personality shines. Nuri is very affectionate and loves human connection. She enjoys spending time in the yard, happily takes treats, and settles nicely after getting some energy out. She has a slight pull on leash but walks best on a harness and has no trouble being leashed or returning to her kennel. In playgroup, she was polite with other dogs and mostly kept to herself. During a short foster stay, Nuri showed just how wonderful she can be in a home. She bonded closely with her people, following them from room to room like a true âvelcro dog.â She enjoys soft squeaky toys, already knows sit and stay, and handled everyday household noises with ease. Nuri would thrive in a calm, patient home where she can continue building confidence and feeling safe. With love, structure, and reassurance, she has all the makings of a loyal, devoted companion.

Overview:
The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
