Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Hey guys! We have a very sweet medical case German Shepherd named Ruger. He is about 2 years old and weighs 65 pounds. Ruger is extremely tolerant, easy to work with and has been friendly with all the other animals he’s met ( check out these cat pictures! ). Our doctor examined him and found the following - He’s got nerve damage in his right hind leg and the left front has an elbow fracture and is very swollen (we felt a click). The left front really needs immediate repair. His x-rays show a pelvic fracture on the left side and a Luxated left front with a chip fracture. The elbow is the real issue as it will require surgery to put it back into place and secure it. We will be updating Ruger's bio as we learn more about his medical condition and this sweet boy's personality. If you'd like to open up your home to Ruger, please fill out an adoption application at .northstarpets and be sure to ask for RUGER GSD TX.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
