Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Vinny, the current staff & volunteer favorite dog (shh, don’t tell the others)! Vinny arrived at the Shelter as a stray initially so we don’t know much about his life before the Shelter. Since his arrival, he has been a goofy, squishy socialite with both people and other dogs. He has a lot of energy and would thrive in an active household looking for a running, hiking, ball-fetching type of lifestyle. But he’s also super smart and thrives with mental stimulation that is paired with the reinforcement of his most prized possession – tennis balls! This will make positive reinforcement training fun for Vinny and his new family moving forward. Vinny has enjoyed playgroup at the Shelter and does best with other similarly sized dogs (or larger) who enjoy a bit of rough and tumble play. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter for some speed dating prior to adoption. Because he's been here for a little while, Vinny's adoption fee has been sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation's Leave No One Behind fund- a fund that draws adopter's eyes towards animals that have been waiting a little bit longer for the right adopters to come along. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
