Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Currently fostering my elderly mother’s dog because she just had open heart surgery.and neither she nor my stepfather can care for her anymore. We lost two of our elderly Boston Terriers last year due to health problems and I told myself “No more dogs.” But then my mom had a heart attack and everything changed. We had some people interested in taking Lady in, but we only tried a few days and couldn’t get her rehomed before my mom got home from rehab two weeks after surgery. I’ve had her now for a week and I just really do not want the responsibility of caring for another dog. We had dogs for decades but they were for my husband and kids, I just ended up being the one to care for them. Lady is an 11 pound, 9yo Miniature Schnauzer. She’s spayed and in good health and she is house trained. She’s only ever been the only dog and my mom and stepfather were not able to walk her. The only time she was on a leash was to the dog park. When around other dogs in the family, there were initial “no blood drawn” scuffles, afterwards, she either played with or ignored them. She mostly likes to snuggle up on her human, but I’m not much of a dog snuggler. Her diet is Iam’s for small breeds. Things like human food, bacon in particular, are not safe to give her as it gave her pancreatitis a few years ago. She does love to have toys thrown but she doesn’t fetch. I think the best home for Lady would be a home with no other dogs and with those who enjoying petting and cuddling. It’s just not me, but that’s what she’s used to. I was just trying to keep her in the family so to speak. She’s up to date on all of her shots and is on Bravecto for flea prevention and ProHeart for heart worms. Thanks for your time. **** Breed: Miniature Schnauzer **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2193133&flag=1

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
