Description
Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Hi my name is Dutchess, my friends call me Dutch! I am a cattle dog mix. Not much is known about my background but my foster guesses that I was a stray for quite a while. Because of this, I can be hesitant when I first meet new friends but I warm up quickly. I am extremely affectionate with my humans and need a family that understands my breed. I am good with other dogs and children. I have been in homes with cats but it is recommended that I go to a home with no cats. I love walks and being with my people. I am crate trained and house broken. I also know basic commands. I am extremely smart and eager to please. My first foster taught me a lot, but I am ready to learn more. I LOVE playing/splashing in water. I am a bit of a quirky girl but I know my family is out there. I have a lot of love to give.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
