Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Zippo is a stray dog that wandered up to our house one day. He is super sweet & not aggressive at all. He has a collar with no identification and we have not been successful in finding his owner after posting him on multiple platforms. We took him to the vet but he does not have a microchip. We've called animal control but they have not showed up and the local animal shelter cannot take him for a few more weeks. We would prefer that he go to a home then a shelter! He just wants to be loved! We would keep him but already have two other dogs and a cat that we recently took in that was also a stray so we are just not in the position to keep him. It would be so great for him to go to a loving home! **** Breed: Pit Mix **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2193027&flag=1

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
