Description
Dog Breed: Beagle (short coat). This captivating 4 year old canine was rescued/found by our county Pound. Roscoe boasts a remarkably sweet temperament, demonstrating a strong desire to please and affectionately showering everyone with tender kisses. Upon arrival, his left eye was ruptured, prompting immediate veterinary attention in which he successfully had that injured eye removed. True to his Beagle nature, Roscoe swiftly recovered from surgery and resumed his distinctive 'Beagle Bray,' a unique vocalization that bears some resemblance to a donkey's bray. He is a skilled tracker, adept at following scents both on the ground and in the air. Roscoe would thrive in a loving home with a comfortable couch, where he can bask in human companionship. Notably, he coexists harmoniously with felines. Our one-eyed boy has undergone neutering, 4DX testing, and received treatment for Lyme disease, including a month-long course of Doxycycline. Additionally, he has been microchipped, vaccinated with DHLPP, Bordetella, Lyme, and Rabies, and treated with Nexgard for flea and tick prevention, as well as Interceptor. Overview:
The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
