Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Scout Scout is a handsome young pup who found himself at the shelter after being surrendered with his canine friend, Staci. Staci has since been adopted, leaving Scout all by himself. Big changes are scary, but Scout is doing his best to face them with a big hopeful heart. This sweet boy has an affectionate nature and loves soaking up attention—especially pets and kind words. He’s still young and eager to learn, with all the potential to become a wonderful family companion. Volunteers note that he easily learned to sit and lay down in a short visit! Scout would love nothing more than to trade his cage for walks, cozy nights, warm blankets, and a family to call his own. Scout is wishing for one special Christmas gift: a home for the holidays. Whether through adoption or fostering, you could be the miracle he’s waiting for.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
