Description
Dog Breed: Basset Hound. Adoption Fee: $450. Luna is a 4 year old, red and white, female basset who weighs 41 lbs. She is super cute! She loves all humans and wants nothing more than to curl up and cuddle with her people. She is usually very calm, mellow, and gentle although her barking can come out at times. She walks well on a leash (although does like to follow her nose- like all bassets) and she does well in the car, both in a crate and out. Her foster mom has had her in a large pen at home at times and she has done well with that too. She is usually very agreeable and listens well. She has no health issues, is housetrained, and knows how to use a dog door. Luna can be a little nervous when first meeting new dogs. She may growl a little and keep more to herself at first but she just needs a little time to trust that she is safe. She has been fostered in a dogsitting home and she has proven that, given a little time, she can actually be very comfortable with all manner of dogs. And she has learned socialization very well over the last few months. She has proven to be very adaptable. If you give her a little patience she will fall head over heels in love with you and be your best friend. Luna would be a wonderful companion dog for someone who has no other dogs but she can also do well in a home with a dog sibling.

Overview:
The Basset Hound is a charming and distinctive breed, originating in France as a scent hound primarily used for hunting hare and rabbit. Easily recognized by their long, droopy ears, sad-looking eyes, and short, sturdy legs, they possess an incredibly powerful sense of smell. Despite their somewhat mournful expression, Bassets are known for their gentle, laid-back, and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful companions for families. They are generally good with children and other pets, though their stubborn streak and loud baying bark require consistent training. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient daily exercise, their tendency to follow their nose means a secure yard is essential. Potential owners should be aware of common health concerns such as ear infections due to their long ears, back issues, and bloat. Overall, the Basset Hound is a loyal and loving, if sometimes comically determined, addition to many homes.
